“We extend our sincere thanks to the community members who came forward with tips and information that were instrumental in leading to the arrest of this violent and dangerous individual,” according to a statement by Hamilton police Sgt. Brian Ungerbuehler.
Police described Benson as a “violent and dangerous individual.”
Further details, including formal charges, are to be released at a later time as the investigation continues, Ungerbuehler said. He was booked in the Butler County Jail earlier this afternoon.
Benson was also wanted for violation of a protection order.
Police issued a plea for help of the community late Tuesday, offering a $500 reward. Police said he was seen Tuesday afternoon in a stolen vehicle, a 2003 Silver Jeep Grand Cherokee with a plastic bag covering a broken-out driver’s side rear window. That vehicle was later recovered late Tuesday unoccupied.
Ungerbuehler said on Wednesday morning, investigators were following up on leads members of the public provided after media outlets around the tri-state reported on the Hamilton Police Department’s search.
